I don't like some of Casperiums features.

Journal Entry: Tue Jan 31, 2012, 12:38 PM
Casperium why is she featuring such bad works for DDs sometimes? No offense to all people who got a DD, there were also a lot of good ones but some of the others don't deserve a DD? I don't really do spaceart anymore but I'm very dissapointed, because there are a lot of great artists and works which deserve the attention much more.

Well I have stoped looking at space art a looong time ago so I don't know what's going on with the DDs.
In my opinion "space art" is not something to be taken seriously, unless you are someone like `gucken and a few othrs who take it to another level. All you have to do is add textures in photoshop

If you say something like that, typography is nothing more than arranging some letters. Still, I think it's a great kind of art and sometimes very hard to create even though It's only some letters. Same with spaceart.

Unless you manage to push your idea beyond and make it more than just planets all most space artists do, me included, is copying the tutorials. Very few actualy do something realy good. Typography forces you to be creative from its very nature. It's much harder to make something out of letters that is unique, original, and something that has a balanced composition simultaneously.

yeah but if you just copy something else with letters or dont use composition etc. it's just as bad as wrapping textures around spheres. Also I don't consider that what you explained space ART. It's just space pictures. Space ART is something original like you explained.

If you don't have these skills then no matter what you try it will suck anyway. the thing with space art is that one can use all these special efects and "conceal" these errors to a common viewer.

What an incredibly mean spirited journal. There's a better way to state your disappointment or disagreement with someone's Daily Deviation picks than saying that they as a person outright suck. You're also openly insulting many people who got their work featured. Just because you used the term "no offense" doesn't mean that people aren't going to be offended, and it's not a free pass to say whatever the hell you want about people or their work.

This journal makes you look not only unprofessional, but like someone whose ego needs a reality check. You have every right to criticize her choices of features, but what's the purpose in doing so in a way that makes you look so juvenile? Anyone can throw around insults, it takes a bigger person to take their frustration and address it in a constructive, mature manner, something you clearly have not done.

In short, this journal makes you look bad, not her. You'd get a lot further if you addressed things in a respectful way instead of stomping your feet on the ground and shouting like a child. Who wants to listen to that or takes it seriously?

Thanks for your feedback. Now that I look at it, it really seems mean spirited. But in some parts I have to disagree... First, I didn't mean to insult anyone who got a DD from her. I didn't post a link to any work which I think is bad and I won't do it, because it is not the fault of the people who received a DD so I don't have anything against them. And probably they are happy for it and I don't want to bring them down. Also the title is misleading, I didn't want to say that Casperium "sucks" as a person or an artist. In fact I have faved some of her artworks and never had anything against her in personal but you are right, the title clearly makes you think that I wanted to insult her in person. Next time I write something like this I'll look over it many times until I submit it and I'll also edit this Journal to show my real intentions trying to not insult anyone. So thanks for your critique.

Well having being a GM once i know it is NOT as easy as simply choosing whatever one likes from a users gallery, there are many rules that come in to play which limits the work one can feature from a single category. Add to that the pressure of having to choose one for every day, and one can understand why others wont be happy with some decisions.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I don't think it's easy and that is the reason why I waited so long to finally post my opinion because I thought "It must be hard and everyone makes mistakes". But that many? Some of the features really makes you wonder if she has ever see any other works of the category she submitted. And to discover a shitload of underrated artists every day I visit this site which don't get any attention starts making me mad. Plus most of the times I've submitted any works they weren't chosen and so it seemed like there is a wide range of great works to choose for featuring.

Seriously? And what exactly do you expect to achieve with this journal? I don't agree with all the DDs given by her too, but that counts also for the former GMs. Yes Taenaron, Gucken and Voyager too. And the GMs before them and the following ones will also fail to satisfy everyone. If you don't agree with her choices, write her a note, not a journal. Thats my two cents on the matter.
